Merlin is committed to using our geoscience expertise to contribute to the goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. We are actively working on ways to improve subsurface characterisation for both CCS and geothermal energy applications. Geothermal energy can play an important part in helping the UK decarbonise its economy but it has received relatively little attention in ongoing policy discussions to date. We are happy to support a new report from the REA and Arup that describes the potential opportunities for deep geothermal energy in the UK and will raise awareness of this important technology and its benefits.
